AEW Cant Have Long Title Runs

AEW World Championship - Wikipedia

Let me name just a few names that have AEW Champion Potential

Hangman Adam Page

Adam Cole

Andrade El Idol

Brian Cage

Bryan Danielson

Chris Jericho

CM Punk

Cody Rhodes

Darby Allin

Jon Moxley

Jungle Boy

Kenny Omega

Lance Archer

Malakai Black

Miro

MJF

Nick Comoroto

Pac

Pentagon Jr

Sammy Guevara

Wardlow

And that’s right now. Imagine how bigger the roster will be in a few months. Clearly AEW can’t have someone hold on to the title for record runs. At this point there might not be enough main events or PPVs to go around. They might even need to give Rampage their own titles.

AEW really needs to expand and fast. Because a lot of talent is being pushed aside as of late for big name signings. Brian Cage debuted and instantly earned a title shot. Imagine how the 8 other guys in match might’ve felt.

When Ruby Soho debuted, she immediately earned a title shot. Do you expect AEW not to sign Bryan Danielson and Adam Cole? Do you think they won’t sign Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman when they are available?

Not to mention the ton of NJPW talent that can jump over for a few matches. We already have Jay White on Impact Wrestling. Wouldn’t be too ridiculous to see him make an AEW run for a few months. Also the free agents that will naturally look for a new change of pace. AEW has to stop thinking like a wrestling promotion and start thinking like a wrestling empire. And they have all the tools available to lead the world of wrestling into the future.

AEW Is In Trouble

Yes, the company that forever changed the wrestling industry is in trouble. Not with the product—they’re putting on some of the best matches in wrestling and the build-up to Pay Per Views is perfect storytelling. Their viewership is breaking records every week. So, what’s the problem?

AEW is hiring too many wrestlers in such a short amount of time.

Here is a small list of AEW wrestlers that I think should be in the title picture:

Do we think that Kenny Omega, the greatest wrestler of all time, won’t win the championship again? That Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho won’t be in the title picture for the rest of their AEW career? There are now rumblings—more specifically, the Mrs. Cage, and her very vocal outrage over his poor bookings—that Brian Cage is looking to make the jump to the WWE.

Cage’s debut should’ve annoyed a lot of AEW talent. He was the final entrant in the Casino Ladder Match, won within minutes of entering the match, and earned a title shot against Moxley. Debut and title match: same year. Same day. Same hour. Meanwhile, Darby Allin and others get pushed aside.

Ruby Soho, former WWE talent Ruby Riott, showed up as the final entrant in the Casino Battle Royale, won and earned a title match. Meanwhile other talents like Anna Jay, Tay Conti, and Penelope Ford are pushed aside for new talent. AEW sells free agent talents on big matches and title opportunities—just sign up!—which in turn pushes aside the talent that’s been there from the beginning.

So how do they fix it?

  • Split the roster evenly down the middle.
  • Remove the AEW Championship name entirely and make AEW Rampage into a 2 hour show with its own title.
  • You keep AEW Dark on YouTube and, rather than a squash show, make it a show where talents outside the fold can stay in the public eye.
  • Make the FTW Championship a title only for Dark.
  • Rampage also needs a mid-card and tag team championship. AEW has to utilize Impact Wrestling and NJPW to send wrestlers over there when their storylines become stale.

AEW is doing a lot of things right, but if they don’t make serious changes to their business model, their homegrown talent will start heading over to the WWE.

Let me know what you guys think. Is AEW on the verge of losing their top talent? Or will they stick it out?
