Warhorse : No Real Contract?

I never heard of Warhorse until he battled Cody Rhodes during the Pandemic Era for the TNT Championship. It was a good match. Hated how it ended. Warhorse tapped out to Rhodes and the Dark Order attacked them and then Matt Cardona came out and helped Rhodes out which led to some matches of them vs The Dark Order, but no Warhorse?

Especially during that time when a lot of wrestlers were staying home, I would’ve thought Warhorse would at least be there for a few more matches. I don’t know all the ins and outs of AEW contracts, but I remember Eddie Kingston had a similar match with Rhodes and got a contract right after. Fuego Del Sol somehow has an AEW contract and Warhorse doesn’t?

I admit my knowledge of Warhorse is limited to that one AEW match and some clips I saw on YouTube, but it looks like he can wrestle. He can sell, has a nice look, is unique, definitely someone who shouldn’t be overlooked so quickly. If not AEW then I’d like to see him head to Impact and see what happens. Warhorse vs Josh Alexander would be a fun match to watch. Maybe have him take on Eric Young, Christian Cage and Moose would all be great matches to watch.

So what do you guys think of Warhorse and what brand would you like to see him on?

The Death of Trent

This episode of Rampage has once again proven that AEW has no idea what they are doing with their storylines or how to protect their wrestler’s reputation. The Best Friends and their companions have been fighting the Elite for weeks now. Adam Cole and Orange Cassidy ended their feud in dramatic fashion and I figured this was the ending to the Young Bucks and Trent and Rocky Romero storyline, but it looks like that storyline will continue with AEW’s new signing Jay White. Which I imagine in a few weeks we will get the Young Bucks teaming with Jay White vs The Best Friends.

Today will be the beginning of the end for Trent’s career because he will be going one on one with Jay White, a man who I consider a top 5 wrestler in the world. Obviously, the plan is for White to pick up his first win in AEW against Trent. Which means that Trent is now cannon fodder in AEW? Trent shouldn’t be the one used, it should be Romero. Romero doesn’t have much of a future in AEW. The best-case scenario for Romero is a tag team champion or be in some multi-man battle royal match. Trent at least has potential to be in a mid-card title picture. Maybe squeak out a win there, but not be a long-time champion. Still, Trent deserves better.

On the other side, what would happen to White if he loses his first match? It would kill any momentum in AEW. Many wrestling fans know White in YouTube videos and compilations. I doubt many people who watch AEW even know what channel NJPW is on.

White is going to be booked as a superstar in AEW. He’s not brand new to the industry like Hook. White is one of the most decorated wrestlers overseas, someone who can the face of any wrestling promotion in the world, someone who is not going to sign to one of the biggest wrestling companies in the world and lose to Trent.

Last week we watched Keith Lee in an extremely impressive debut match against Isiah Kassidy. And even though the match wasn’t a complete squash, unlike many of Hook’s matches, it still let the AEW fans know that Kassidy is nothing more than cannon fodder in this company. I doubt there were any plans for Kassidy to beat Kenny Omega at Double or Nothing for the AEW Championship, but still its good to not embarrass him in the eyes of the fans.

So what do you think of Jay White debuting and how far do you see him going in AEW?

Warhorse : No Contract?

Santana : Ready For A Singles Run?

Santana looks really good know. He’s been hitting the gym and it shows. I would like to see Santana develop into a singles star. Probably not taking the AEW Championship, but making some noise in a championship elimination tournament. He would need a unique finisher. I actually don’t know Santana’s finisher in AEW. People in the Community Creations in the WWE games have his finishers as Superkicks, Frog Splashes, RKOs, just a bevy of random finishers and I’ve never seen Santana pick up the win with any of those.

Does Santana have what it takes to be AEW Champion? I don’t think so yet, but I see him more running the mid card division one day. What do you guys think?

I Wouldn’t Sign Them

Can't Knock The Hustle: What Does AEW Do With CM Punk & Bryan Danielson?

I’ve been flip flopping on this one for a while. When I heard the rumors of CM Punk and Bryan Danielson making the move to AEW I first wrote “I wouldn’t sign them,” I would’ve rather AEW focus on the talent and stop bringing in new guys.

Then when they showed up I wrote “I was totally wrong. This is an amazing moment for wrestling fans. I can’t wait to see what happens,”. And now my opinion is “I wouldn’t have signed them and would rather AEW focus on the talent already there,”. CM Punk is putting on great matches. Seems like a dream match every week. But again, he’s taking time away from other AEW talent and there is so much there that a lot of them get pushed aside.

Now Danielson is next in line for an AEW Championship match. What about Lance Archer, Brian Cage, Pac, the 4 Pillars and others? Every time AEW signs one of these big-name talents, everyone on the roster gets pushed down a peg. Realistically, I would rather see Danielson challenge Hangman Page for the title rather than a Pentagon or a Sammy Guevara, but still, I would rather them get a shot at a main event match and build off of that.

That was what CM Punk argued with Vince McMahon and Triple H about at the end of his WWE tender. He wanted that WrestleMania main event to build his character more and put him into that top tier of wrestlers.

I’m not saying these aren’t great matches the two men are having. It’s just storyline we aren’t seeing a lot of other talents getting the top spots like they deserve.

AEW Is In Trouble

Yes, the company that forever changed the wrestling industry is in trouble. Not with the product—they’re putting on some of the best matches in wrestling and the build-up to Pay Per Views is perfect storytelling. Their viewership is breaking records every week. So, what’s the problem?

AEW is hiring too many wrestlers in such a short amount of time.

Here is a small list of AEW wrestlers that I think should be in the title picture:

Adam PageLance Archer
Adam ColeMalakai Black
AndradeThe Young Bucks
Brian CageMJF
Bryan DanielsonMiro
Cody RhodesPac
Darby AllinPentagon Jr
Jon MoxleyRey Fenix
Jungle boyWardlow

Do we think that Kenny Omega, the greatest wrestler of all time, won’t win the championship again? That Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho won’t be in the title picture for the rest of their AEW career? There are now rumblings—more specifically, the Mrs. Cage, and her very vocal outrage over his poor bookings—that Brian Cage is looking to make the jump to the WWE.

Cage’s debut should’ve annoyed a lot of AEW talent. He was the final entrant in the Casino Ladder Match, won within minutes of entering the match, and earned a title shot against Moxley. Debut and title match: same year. Same day. Same hour. Meanwhile, Darby Allin and others get pushed aside.

Ruby Soho, former WWE talent Ruby Riott, showed up as the final entrant in the Casino Battle Royale, won and earned a title match. Meanwhile other talents like Anna Jay, Tay Conti, and Penelope Ford are pushed aside for new talent. AEW sells free agent talents on big matches and title opportunities—just sign up!—which in turn pushes aside the talent that’s been there from the beginning.

So how do they fix it?

  • Split the roster evenly down the middle.
  • Remove the AEW Championship name entirely and make AEW Rampage into a 2 hour show with its own title.
  • You keep AEW Dark on YouTube and, rather than a squash show, make it a show where talents outside the fold can stay in the public eye.
  • Make the FTW Championship a title only for Dark.
  • Rampage also needs a mid-card and tag team championship. AEW has to utilize Impact Wrestling and NJPW to send wrestlers over there when their storylines become stale.

AEW is doing a lot of things right, but if they don’t make serious changes to their business model, their homegrown talent will start heading over to the WWE.

Let me know what you guys think. Is AEW on the verge of losing their top talent? Or will they stick it out?
